Have to say I agree with much of what Figment says. Although I did overall enjoy this game there were some things that boggled my mind. Before I begin my rant I'll tell you that this is pretty much my first Final Fantasy and that used guides and faqs as little as possible. The whole Zodiac Spear stuff is just retarded, just like Figment said why wouldn't you open a chest? And that Nabudis Medallion sidequest was pretty ridiculous, too (as well as a few of the others). They can't actually expect someone to talk to NPCs multiple times throughout the course of the game in hopes of stumbling on some important information from some random guy you first talked to 10, 20 hours ago.
I also definitely agree with Figment about the bosses. I find there's little I can draw on for clues, unlike other RPGs like Chrono Cross for example, whose "element-weakness system" (or whatever you want to call it) at least gives you a basic strategy at the beginning of a boss fight. And I also agree with Figment's comment on magicks. The good ones rarely work on bosses and are needless for pretty much everyone else.
And then the storyline was overall too unclear. It's not that they didn't necessarily explain this or that earlier on, it's just that they only mention it once and barely say anything again of it for a good 10 hours of gameplay. At the end of the game I still didn't know the difference between magicite, nethicite, manufacted nethicite, and deifacted nethicite!
Overall, there just could just have been much more as far as informing the player: of what works against bosses/what strategy to use, what are the differences between the numerous different types of weapons in the game (had to look at a game guide for that), and other stuff that I've already mentioned. I should be able to beat the game by myself (and I've been playing other RPGs, Zelda, Metroid and other games that require use of one's mind my almost the entire 20 years of my life).
And to top it all off, the final boss fight was WAY TOO EASY for me.
But I still liked it overall (as hard as that may be to believe by this point).
