The Ruins
So take all the suspense, villainy, and action that you
found in part I of this demo and tuck it away in that part of your brain
responsible for unfulfilled longing for the American release of Blue Dragon. Part
II is a purposeless jaunt through a grassy meadow that is attributed the name
The Ruins. When I say attributed, I intend to be vague because I don’t know who
would consider this area ruins. There aren’t any lithic remnants of some
ancient culture hinting at a paradise lost. No. There are just some old abandoned
metal machines lying discarded along a grassy hill. Calling this area The Ruins
is like considering my neighbor’s yard full of rusted out lawn equipment the
next Pompeii.
Your goal in this area, which is never mentioned, is to kill
a multi-headed snake and then kill a demon tree. Oh, there are also five
machines that, when activated, unlock a chest that contains a nearly useless
artifact. I thought this machine hunt was the goal of this demo. I even
documented how to find all the machines. I am including the directions below not
because I think it is important that you activate them (it’s a fool’s errand)
but because I spent so long writing it up it would be a waste to delete it. Oh
why do these machines look like a huge pair of tits?
Again, don’t do what is in this table, it is a waste of your
time:
Machine 1: Starting area, located along the eastern wall of
the zone.
Machine 2: Head north out of the starting zone. In the path
leading to the next zone is a machine.
Machine 3: Then turn east. In the pathway there will be a
second machine.
Machine 4: Head east from the 2nd machine and you
will enter another open meadow. Continue east skipping the multi-headed hydra
beast. This thing can paralyze your entire team giving you a quick game over.
Instead head straight east and there it is, sitting in the next little corridor.
To continue east is to find a dead end
and a chest with an ancient king’s ring in it.
Machine 5: Head north from the second area. From there, head
north through another corridor. This place will be swarming with the purple
Howling Leopards. The machine is located along the northern curve of the area.
The Unlocked Chest: From machine 5, head to the western edge
of the area to the chest that is sitting under the tree.
Now if you intend to beat Part II of this game and you just unlocked
all those chests, shame on you. Restart the demo because you wasted a good
portion of your 60 minutes that should have been spent defeating these two
bosses.
To find the hydra (which is the main goal of this area) use
the following directions:
-
From the starting area, go north one zone and then head
east to the next area.
- There, blocking the passage is the Gorgon Hydrattler. But,
before you attack it, you will need to properly equip your party. Press Y to
open your equipment screen, select Accessories and then equip Jiro and Marumaro
with the Ancient Warrior’s necklace. This will prevent petrify which is an
attack that both of the next two bosses will use extensively.
BOSS: Gorgon Hydrattler
- Despite his punishing attacks, the Hydrattler is quite low
in HP. One uncharged hit with Groundus or the Groundus Magic Sword will kill him.
However, his quick attacks will mean you will spend most of the first part of
this battle just trying to recover your party from being petrified or KO’d.
- When at least one member of your party is alive, hit it
with Black Magic Groundus or use groundus magic sword (don’t charge it at all)
The snake beast dies and another area that is beyond him is
now accessible. Run east but stop before
heading into the next area. Open the chest to get a Gravitic Earring. Equip
Marumaro with it and you can greatly reduce the amount of damage he will take
from the next boss. Be sure to stop and heal up your party using the spell
menu.
When you do proceed through the next area, you encounter Ghost
Yeat. In case you are wondering, yes this is the vengeful spirit of Irish poet William
Butler Yeats trapped in a deciduous tree. So let this boss be a lesson to
anyone who wants worship the occult and write poetry that is out of time with
your modernist peers. You may just come back as a demon tree with a raging case
of gingivitis.
BOSS: Ghost Yeat
-
If the Yeat casts “Boost Fire” it is building up a defense
against fire so you should always hit him once with a Waterus magic sword to
take that advantage away.
- Once “Boost Fire” is stripped away, have everyone hit him with
Flarus attacks
- If it casts “Boost Fire” again, hit it again with Waterus.
- Keep your party healthy by having Jiro cast cure-all (for
petrify) and revive for the KO’s.
- Keep an eye out for a menu item called “Corporeal”. These
are the charged one time attacks that each character will get after being hit
enough times.
- A Corporeal attack by two of your
party members should take care of Ghost Yeat.
- During the battle don’t use windus, waterus or shadow
So, the battle ends and you get still shots of the upcoming
game. I could make up some dialog here and come up with some exclamations
that Marumaro would make but I will spare you. Thanks for playing Blue dragon
and reading this guide..
