- Theft of Manhood - Zeus stole Kratos's Manhood. Insert whatever you ant to think about manhood: Mojo, Essence, Groove... See how he is dealing with his loss and what he does to get it back.
- Architecture as Proxy - There are several characters in GOW 2 who do not appear but confront Kratos through architecture. Notice how the fates first communicate with him. Notice that Zeus first attacks Kratos using the once stationary colossus and the Gods using their status to communicate with him in the Garden of the Gods. Similarly, note how Kratos deals with those doppelgangers.
- NOT the theme of fate (Surprisingly) - Geek literature has always played with the theme of fate and humanity's petty attempts to escape the inevitable. See plays such as the Oedipus Tyrannos where Oediups can never escape the oracle's prediction of him killing his own father. Considering that the Fates are actual, physical characters in this game, I was surprised and a bit disappointed that this theme wasn't more prominent.
- Perpetuation of Vengeance - See the different versions of killing-dad and killing-son are repeated.
